School of Peace &
Sept 9 - Dec 13, 2024
The School of Peace & Justice is designed to provide participants with practical understanding of and engagement with issues of peace and justice from a Christian perspective. In the context of intentional Christian community and alongside engaged long term ministry in an inner city neighbourhood, participants will receive training, teaching, mentorship and opportunities to explore different dynamics surrounding peace and justice.
Prerequisites
Participants must be 18 years or older (or high school graduates) with a desire and commitment to develop their understanding, experience and skills surrounding a Christian response to our call to peace and justice. All participants must also successfully complete the application process (see below).
CONTEXT
The program will be hosted in the West End neighbourhood of Winnipeg, MB. Winnipeg is a multicultural urban centre at the geographic heart of North America. The city is also home to many dynamics that make it an ideal setting for this program, including racial, cultural & religious diversity, vibrant arts subculture, etc. It boasts the largest First Nations population (per capita) of any Canadian city and the largest French Canadian population outside of Quebec.
At the heart of the city, Winnipeg’s West End is one of the most culturally and racially diverse communities in Manitoba. Home to many cultural groups- including Portuguese, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Vietnamese, Sudanese, Cree, Ojibwa and many others- it is a wonderful mosaic of Canada’s diversity. It is also, however, home to many social challenges, such as poverty, substance abuse, racism and other problems common to the inner city.
Participants will live in community in the West End, where our team has served for nearly 20 years, interacting with neighbours and our church, Little Flowers Community, an inner city missional church. (Local students are not required to stay in our community housing options).
