Activ8 is an 8 month transformative program of self-discovery within an intentional (peer) learning community designed to enrich your faith, foster generative community, and inspire a passion for engaged service. This innovative approach to spiritual and personal growth is a partnership between Mennonite Church Manitoba and Peace & Justice Initiatives.
Program Dates:
Sept. 12, 2025 – Apr. 24, 2026
Prerequisites
Applicants must be 18 years or older (or high school graduates) who are passionate about exploring their faith through active service, such as engagement in a service/learning project and an intentional peer community. The application process includes discerning together if this program is a fit and may require a congregational recommendation. We seek individuals who are eager to engage actively in this transformative journey.
CONTEXT
The Activ8 program offers a dynamic curriculum structured as follows:
- In-Person Retreats: These include a mix of teachings, discussions, and reflection time.
- Participation in the Activ8 Learning Community: Involves project research and reflection, requiring 5-10 hours per week. Weekly meetings, which may be in-person or online, include speaker sessions, prayer times, and potentially worship.
- Service/Learning Project: This is a voluntary project, created in consultation with the Program Director and the participant’s congregation. It can reflect the participant’s interests or the congregation’s community partnerships. Reflection and research are key aspects, with oversight by a congregational mentor mentored by the Program Director.
- Flexibility for Work or School Commitments: Participants can engage in work or school for 15-20 hours a week, with most living at home during the program.
This program design effectively combines faith exploration and examination with hands-on experience, centering the hope of nurturing a deeper understanding and engagement with the commitment of peace and justice. (Note: There will be a 2 week break over the Christmas holidays)
